My favorite vampire film in the last 20 years would have to be Let The Right One In, a small Swedish film made a couple years ago.
Well...it seems that the director of Cloverfield got it in his head that he could pull elements from the book that weren't used in the original film and make a good American version of the Swedish masterpiece. I almost passed a kidney stone when I first heard of this news. Well...not much of the film has been exhumed aside from the casting of "Hit Girl" from the film Kick-Ass as the vampire lead and a relative unknown for the boy. The teaser trailer premiered not too long ago. I've probably watched it 50 times and I'm still not quite sure what to make of it yet...as it draws upon many familiar images from the original. I'm hoping that director Matt Reeves wasn't just playing the carbon copy game here...'cause it kinda looks like it may be shot scene for scene. I hope that Mr. Reeves makes good with his promise and pulls a lot of the fascinating elements from the book that didn't make it into the original...because that would be the only fuckin' way he's gonna gain my interest with this unnecessary project.
It'll be released to the world on October 1st, 2010...until then, here's the trailer for Let Me In.
